She was born Jan. 31, 1938, to William and Mary Drumheller. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, James and Johnny Drumheller.

She is survived by three brothers, William Roy Lee, and Thomas "Skiddy" Drumheller; and three daughters, Mary "Sissy" Altizer, Debbie Woods, and Barbara Balser. A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at Faith Christian Church, Staunton. Kenneth W. Bean, 50 VERONA Kenneth Wayne Bean died Friday (March 26, 2004) at his home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1953, in Shenandoah County, son of the late George Samuel and Bernetta Bowman Bean. He was the lumber department manager with Lowe's in Staunton and former division manager for Advance Auto. He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Janie" Silvious Bean; and a sister, Rita Faye Altland of York, Penn. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m.

Tuesday at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mount Jackson. Burial will follow at Mount Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Dellinger Funeral Home, Mount Jackson is handling arrangements.

Earl B. Knowles, 78 STAUNTON Earl Burgess Knowles, widower of Mary L. (Maupin) Knowles, of 2306 Parkhill Road, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday (March 26, 2004) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. He was born Oct.

26, 1925, in Winchester, a son of the late Kinzley G. and Nellie (Burgess) Knowles. Prior to retirement, he was employed as office manager at Noland Supplies. Family members include a son, Dwane R. Knowles, of Staunton.

There will be no public viewing or services. The body was cremated. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Sadie D. Backe, 83 CHURCHVILLE Sadie Belle (Dillon) Backe, 83, widow of George Marion Backe, formerly of Staunton, died at 12:50 a.m.

Saturday (March 27, 2004) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Harrisonburg, a daughter of the late Robert Kent and Eugenia (Fore) Dillon. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Emmalou Billings. Surviving is a brother, Robert E.

Dillon of Staunton. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Augusta Memorial Park, Fishersville. The family will receive friends any time at the residence of Robert Dillon, 1817 Orchard Lane, Staunton. There will be no public viewing.

Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Isabelle D. Welcher, 81 STUARTS DRAFT Isabelle D. Welcher passed away Friday (March 26, 2004) at the Shenandoah Nursing Home. She was born Feb.

22, 1923, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late William Lerty Diehl and Ottie Fitzgerald Diehl. She worked as a salesperson at the F. W. Woolworth Company. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J.

Welcher. Survivors include three children, H. Wayne Sr. of Mount Crawford, Janet W. Cook of Elkton, and Roger L.

Welcher of Stuarts Draft; one brother, William A. Diehl; and one sister, Louise R. Diehl. A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at Reynolds Funeral Service of Stuarts Draft and other times at the residence of Roger and Dale Welcher, 279 Gertie's Lane in Stuarts Draft. Janet L. McCartney, 81 WAYNESBORO Janet Long McCartney, of 2229 Cortland Street, died at 5:20 p.m.

and Mary Watson Bryant. Mr. Bryant was an Inspector with the Civil Service. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving is his son, Ashley W.

Bryant III of Greensboro, N.C. A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service. McDow Funeral Home is handing arrangements.

Ellis I. Strother 56 STAUNTON Ellis Irvin Strother of 637 Stuart Street, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (March 25. 2004) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. Mr.

Strother was born July 9, 1947, in Harrisonburg, a son of Ellis Irvin Strother Sr. and Ruth Virginia (Brown) Strother. Family members include five daughters, Tamatha Burress of Wilmington, Angela Martin and Maronaca Crawford, both of Staunton, Lisa Holly and Martrina Strother, both of Washington, D.C.; stepchildren, James Crawford Sylvia Simms, Tina Green, Sirelle Crawford, Grace Tayler and Franklin Crawford; and a sister, Carolyn Barber of Harrisonburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Ames Cemetery, Bridgewater.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Nancy D. Foster, 79 STAUNTON Nancy Bell (Dickey) Foster, widow of John Dudley Foster, of 1710 North Drive, died at 9:24 p.m. Thursday (March 25, 2004) in the U.Va.

Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was born July 25, 1924, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Marion A. and Sadie Elizabeth (Dixon) Dickey. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Foster had been employed for 40 years at DuPont.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Joyce Lee Alphin; and four brothers, Robert, Samuel, Marion and Darwin Dickey. Family members include a stepson, John D. Foster Jr. of Staunton, a stepdaughter, Nancy F. Barber of Odenton, and two brothers, Clarence Dickey of Staunton and Telford Dickey of Goshen.

A funeral service will conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from p.m. today at the funeral home.

and Lillian Jarrell Brill. He is survived by his wife, Judith Furik Brill of Barboursville. Two daughters, Elizabeth Brill O'Neill and husband Michael of Elkton, and Catherine "Boogie" Pritchett and husband Simmy of Ruckersville, two sons, Donald Lee Brill, Jr. and friend Donna of Barboursville, Glenn Ray Brill and Rodger Mason Brill of Stanardsville, three grandchildren, Kameron Pritchett, Ozzy Brill and Jeremy Brill. Mr.

Brill was a graduate of William Monroe High School. He was semi-retired from Allied Concrete. A member of National Campers, Hikers Assoc (HCHA) and Steam and Gas Assoc. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at the Stanardsville Baptist Church, with Rev. Leon Castle officiating.

KNOWLES STAUNTON, VA Earl Burgess Knowles, 78, widower of Mary (Maupin) Knowles, of 2306 Parkhill Road, Staunton, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday (March 26, 2004) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. He was born October 26, 1925 in Winchester, KY, a son of the late Kinzley G. and Nellie (Burgess) Knowles. Mr.

Knowles spent most of his life in Staunton. He served during WWII in the U. S. Navy. Prior to retirement, he was employed as Office Manager at Noland Supplies.

Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Dwane R. and Connie Knowles, of Staunton; a granddaughter, Rachel Martin of Swoope; and two great grandchildren, Emberly and Nathan Martin. There will be no public viewing or services. The body was cremated. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

FLETA HOLLAR LYTTON HAMBURG, VA PAID ANNOUNCEMENT Fleta Hollar Lytton, age 85, widow of Fred Matthew Lytton, died Friday, March 26, 2004. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Church in Hamburg by the Rev. Robert A. Lewis.

Burial will follow in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery. She was born at Hamburg, Virginia on January 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Edger and Beulah Myers Hollar. Mrs. Lytton worked for Decca Records in Washington, DC and as a teller for 25 years with Virginia National Bank.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and a member of Lay, Life and Work. Mrs. Lytton is survived by a son, Ted Martin Lytton of Hamburg; two daughters, Winnie Lytton of Staunton, Cynthia Sibert and her husband, William E. Jr.

(Feta's second son) of Woodstock; two brothers, Lawrence Hollar of Edinburg, Randolph Hollar of Hamburg; two grandchildren; Nicole Lytton of New Market, Christopher Sibert of Woodstock; a special pet, Blueberry. Pallbearers will be Michael Gochenour, Alfred Heishman, Richard Heishman, Carrol Hottle, and Curtis Roy. WELCHER STUARTS DRAFT, VA Isabelle D. Welcher, 81, of Stuarts Draft passed away Friday, March 26, 2004 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home where she had been a resident since 2003. She was born February 22, 1923 in Augusta County a daughter of the late William Lerty Diehl and Ottie Fitzgerald Diehl. She worked as a salesperson at the F.W. Woolworth Company where she made many friends.

She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Welcher on November 20, 1968. Survivors include three children, H. Wayne Welcher, Sr.

and his wife Reta of Mt. Crawford, Janet W. Cook of Elkton, and Roger Welcher and his wife Dale of Stuarts Draft; five grandsons, H.W. Welcher, Jr. and his wife Karen, Cecil P.
