16, 2008, at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home. McDow 'Funeral Home will announce arrangements. For long-time resident Elsie Madeline Gaylor, who turns 100 on Monday, the majority of memories she's collected from living in Staunton come from a two-story, white house on West Beverley Street. Born in 1908, Gaylor lived in the house as a child, a single working woman, a married homemaker and, for the last few decades, a widow. Unfortunately, Gaylor's failing eyesight forced her to move to Waynesboro and in with her nephew, Charles McLear, about three years ago, after which the new owner tore the house down.

Still, when Gaylor thinks of home, the house that used to stand at 1649 W. Beverley St. remains in her memory. "I lived there my whole life but the two years lived in Clifton Forge," Gaylor said.
