I I I I I I I The News Leader, Wednesday, March 7, 2001 Obituaries Glenna Ryder Botkin WARM SPRINGS Glenna Ryder Botkin, 79, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at Bath County Community Hospital, Hot Springs. She was born July 17, 1921, at Bath County, a daughter of Jacob Henry Ryder and Lottie Ruth Lamb Ryder. She was a homemaker and a member of Chimney Run Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bernell Botkin; three brothers, Jacob, Hansel and Joseph Ryder; and three sisters, Minnie Robinson, Clara Ryder and Ruth Ryder. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Louis Robertson of Warm Springs, Milly and Paul Eavers of Staunton: and 1 Donna and George Ols of Midlothian; three sons and daughters-in-law, Buddy and Gail Botkin of Covington, Tommy and Betty Botkin of Warm Springs and Johnny and Diana Botkin of Millboro; one brother, Louie Ryder of Lansing, 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Revs. David Grimes and Garland Humphries at McLaughlin Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Burial will be at Warm Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony and Todd Botkin, James Braxton, Rodger Hupman, Jamie Windsor and Jerry Liptrap.

The family will receive friends from 7 8:30 p.m. Thursday at McLaughlin Funeral Home. Ida F. Boyd STUARTS DRAFT Ida F. Boyd, 72, of 24 Cloverdale Lane, died Tuesday (March 6, 2001) at her residence.

Christopher Lee Pforr WAYNESBORO Christopher Lee "Chris" Pforr, 15, of 1200 Shenandoah Waynesboro, died Saturday (March 3, 2001) at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg. He was born Jan. 14, 1986, at Waynesboro, a son of Susan Pforr of Waynesboro and Stoney R. and Cindy Gregory of Crimora. He attended Covington Boys Home and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 66, Covington.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Helen Gregory. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Billy Pforr of Waynesboro and Matthew Gregory of Crimora; grandparents, James and Pat Wagner, and Betty and Eddie Dudley, all of Waynesboro; and a number of aunts and uncles. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. E.

B. Shoemaker. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donnie Brogan, Eddie Dudley, Tony Edwards, Scott Van Fossen, Tim Melton and Bobby Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Students of Covington Boys Home.

The family will receive friends from 7- 8 tonight at McDow Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Covington Boys Home. James T. Dedrick STAUNTON James Thomas Dedrick, 78, of 112 W. Peabody Staunton, husband of Voncile (Taylor) Dedrick, died at 4:18 p.m.

Monday (March 5, 2001) at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. He was born on Feb. 20, 1923, at Greenville, a son of William Franklin and Ella (Chandler) Dedrick. He was an Army veteran and, prior to retirement, was a supervisor with the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edwin, Gordon, Harry and Willis Dedrick and three sisters, Catherine Boyles, Edith Myers, and Elizabeth Moneymaker.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married Aug. 20, 1964; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Danny L. and Beverley C. Stogdale of Crimora; a brother, William F. Dedrick Jr.

of Staunton; two sisters, Cornelia F. Dedrick and Mrs. George (Dorothy) Berger, both of Staunton; a grandson, Lee and his wife, Shawn Stogdale; and two greatgrandchildren, Lauren Stogdale and Dylan Stogdale. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Henry Funeral Home by the Rev.

Frank S. Hall. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park with graveside rites by the Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339. Pallbearers will be Lee Stogdale, Scott Fleisher, Clyde Thomas, Eddie Hyden, Anthony Grant, Ronnie Viers and Steve Balser. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr.

Smith WAYNESBORO Fanchell Danielle Smith, a daughter of Larry D. and Rolando (Davis) Smith, of 75 January Drive, Waynesboro, was stillborn Saturday (March 3, 2001) in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. Survivors include her parents; her maternal grandmother, Katie M. Davis of Staunton and paternal grandfather, Andrew J. Smith of Vidalia, and a number of aunts and uncles.

Ethel Lucille Lawhorn STAUNTON Ethel Lucille (Gregory) Lawhorn, 81, of Plaza Apartments, and wife of Haze Herman Lawhorn, died at 10:54 a.m. Monday (March 5, 2001) in the Augusta Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 23, 1919, at Augusta Springs, a daughter of Howard and Laura (Sheppard) Gregory.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Miller Memorial Baptist Church of Augusta Springs and enjoyed the TV ministry of the First Baptist Church, Staunton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ernest Gregory; and a sister, Helen Gregory. In addition to her husband, whom she married Sept. 8, 1936, survivors include three daughters and two sons-inlaw, Shirley L. and Bob Wimer of Buffalo Gap, Rita L.

and Bob Sellers, and Patricia Woods, all of Staunton; a brother, Cecil Gregory of Waynesboro; a sister, Uva Mae Sprouse of Craigsville; three grandchildren, Annie Sellers, Curtis Wimer and Rob Sellers; a great-grandson, Braeden Sellers; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Augusta Memorial Park by the Rev. Michael Herring. The family will receive friends from 7-8 this evening in the Henry Funeral Home.

President Robbi Blackburn said they were suspended when the allegation was made and were dismissed after their arrest.

Chris Hughes, 27, of 1009 S. Winchester Waynesboro and Tori Jenkins, 22, of 3015 Hampton Drive, Waynesboro, were arrested after police found them in possession of morphine at the rescue squad. Hughes and Jenkins admitted to stealing the morphine from the Augusta Medical Center, police said. Woman charged with failure to yield SWOOPE A Quicksburg woman was charged in a crash at 6:50 p.m. Saturday at Va.

708 and Va. 711, Virginia State Police said. Sigrid Anderson, 25, of 2051 Quicksburg Road, turned and struck another vehicle, driven by Morgan Croft, 20, of 77 Confederate Verona. Croft's 1995 GMC pickup then struck an embankment. Police estimated $1,500 damage to Croft's pickup: and $3,000 damage to Anderson's 1990 Toyota four-door.

Anderson was charged with failure to yield the right of way. Girl charged with reckless driving STUARTS DRAFT A woman was charged in an accident at 7:45 a.m. Friday on Va. 608 south of Va. 639, Virginia State Police said.

Pamela Kelly, 31, of 22 Dodge Stuarts Draft, had stopped due to traffic and her car was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Stuarts Draft girl. Police estimated $6,000 damage to the girl's 1990 Honda fourdoor and $200 damage to Kelly's 1994 Chevrolet four-door. The girl was charged with reckless driving. Waynesboro man charged in accident WAYNESBORO A man was charged in a crash at 11 a.m. Tuesday on Ivy Street west of Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro police said.

Gretchen Abshire, 31, of Rt. 2 Box 327, Waynesboro, stopped at a red light and was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Walter Abbott 68, of Rt. 1 Box 1328, Waynesboro. Police estimated $2,800 damage to Abbott's 2000 Ford pickup and $2,000 damage to Abshire's 2000 Subaru. School bus hits parked car in Waynesboro WAYNESBORO A school bus driver was charged in a crash at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Avenue and 11th Street, Waynesboro police said. Regina Sweeney, 35, of 1630 Mulberry Street, Waynesboro, was making a right turn from Forest Avenue onto 11th Street when she struck a parked car on the side of the road.

There were no children on the bus at the time of the accident. Police estimated $300 damage to the school bus and $1,500 damage to the parked car, a 1993 Egil Premier. Sweeney was charged with failure to maintain control. Woman charged with writing bad checks STAUNTON A woman was charged after writing several bad checks worth more than $200 to Kroger's on Statler Boulevard, Staunton police said. Bessie Ratley, 20, of 414 Peach Staunton, issued 11 bad checks to Kroger's between Feb.

14 and Feb. 19. Ratley was charged with a felony charge of writing bad checks. Breaking and entering, larceny at restaurant STAUNTON The Emerald Isle was broken into and cash was taken at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, Staunton police said.

The thief gained entry through a window, police said. More than $200 was taken, and an office wall sustained $50 damage. Police estimated damage to the window at $100. Rifle stolen from Staunton residence STAUNTON -A rifle was taken from a residence on the 400 block of Straith Street between noon and 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Staunton police said.

Taken was a .22 caliber semiautomatic rifle. Man's car slips on wet road, causing accident STAUNTON A man was charged in a crash at 11 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 64 east of Interstate 81, Virginia State Police said. Brad White, 20, of 1000 Brittany Lane, Stuarts Draft, slid on wet pavement in a curve in the road and struck an embankment. Police estimated $2,000 damage to his 1996 Ford four-door Sedan.
