June 2, 2000 at the 1. Bridgewater Retirement Home. Beulah C. Hoffman LEXINGTON Beulah Chandler Hoffman, 89, died Saturday (June 3, 2000) at Roanoke. She was born Aug. 5, 1910, at Lexington, a daughter of Thomas and Anna Cheatwood Chandler. She lived in Lexington all her life and was one of the oldest members of the First Baptist Church in Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Hoffman, and her son, Thomas L. Hoffman. Survivors include her son, William L. Hoffman of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Anita H.

Manley of Roanoke, William L. Hoffman II of Philadelphia, Lisa M. Hoffman of Baltimore, Thomas Hoffman Jr. of Charlottesville, John Joseph Hoffman of Tennessee and Myrna Johnson of Roanoke; six greatgrandchildren; nieces Gloria Vincent and Yvonne Sawyer; several cousins; other nieces and nephews. She helped raise many children, traveling to several places in the United States and keeping in contact with the children throughout their lives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Lexington, with the Rev. LaVert H. Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Williams-Wilson Funeral Service, Lexington. Albert D. Thorne BUENA VISTA Albert David Thorne, 67, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at VA Medical Center. He was born FEb.

5, 1933, at Rockbridge County, a son of John E. and Effie Chittum Thorne. 1 He was a member of the New Beginnings Church in Buena. Vista. He.

was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the Army and Navy reserve and a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Chittum. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wood Thorne; three daughters, Carolyn T. Mason and Wanda G. Lilly, both of Buena Vista, and Patricia Thorne of Atlanta; two sons, Delbert L.

Thorne of Buena Vista and Keith R. Thorne of Waynesboro; four brothers, Harold Thorne of Waynesboro, Gene Thorne and Donnie Thorne of Buena Vista and Jerry Thorne of Fairfield; two sisters, Virginia Butler of Greenville and Jerelene Ward of Stuarts Draft; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 this afternoon at Boiling Grose Lotts Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. C. Wayne Braninburg officiating.

Burial will be at Concord Church of the Brethren Cemetery. James G. Garwood AFTON James Goodloe Garwood, 83, died at 8:05 a.m. Friday (June 2, 2000) at the Cedars Nursing Home in Charlottesville. He was born Jan.

23, 1917, at Afton, a son of Ernest Jackson and Annie Cook Garwood. He retired from DuPont as a sergeant on the guard force with 42 years of service. He was a member of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Rockfish Valley Ruritans, where he served as president. Survivors include three sons, James R. Garwood and his wife, Donna, of Greenwood, David W.

Garwood and his wife, Frances, of Afton, and C. Mark Garwood and his wife, Mary, of Crozet; four grandchildren, Sarah Margaret Frances E. and Christopher T. Garwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Marchetta) Price Garwood; two brothers, William W.

and Ernest Samuel Garwood; and seven sisters, Mary Thompson, Beatrice Harris, Elizabeth Glenn Farrar, Martha Tomlin, Ruth Young, Annie Jackson Critzer and Nellie Hanna. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Rodes United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard McDowell and the Rev. Marvin Kerby, with burial at Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Willis, Carl Mitchell, Robert Willis, Buddy Craig, Bobby Fox, Donald Truslow, Kenneth Lee and Robert Raynor. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service. Memorials may be made to the Rodes United Methodist Church Building Fund, Afton, VA 22920. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro, and at other times at the residence of his son, David W. Garwood in Afton.

Olive F. Tolley BUENA VISTA Olive Franklin Tolley, 89, of 9581 Maury River Road, Goshen, died Friday (June 2, 2000) at Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center, Buena Vista. He was born April 18, 1911, at Rockbridge County, a son of Wesley and Maggie Thompson Tolley. He was a supervisor at Stillwater Worsted Mills at Goshen until he retired. He was a member of Goshen Baptist He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Via Tolley; a son, Oliver F.

Tolley; and an infant son, Kenneth Gene Tolley Survivors include children Billy Tolley of Goshen, Joyce T. Roman of Goshen, Elinor Lotts of Lexington and Jean T. Fulghum of Seaford, a sister, Alese T. Smiley of Charlottesville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Monday at Goshen Baptist Church by Stanley Wade. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Goshen. Pallbearers will be Gary Tolley, Allen Tolley, William Tolley, Stephen Tolley, Patrick Smiley and Kenneth Lotts. Visitation will be from 7-8 this evening at Craigsville Funeral Home, and at any time at the residence, 9581 Maury River Road. Memorials may be made to the Goshen Rescue Squad.

David R. Albright STAUNTON David Robert "Bob" Albright, 82, formerly of Baldwin Park, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday (June 3, 2000) at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home. He was born May 9, 1918, at Denver, a son of Issac and Frances E. Reedy Albright.

4 A daughter of the late Daniel I A. and Alice Sheets Harman, she was born December 14, 1910 in Augusta County. She lived all of her life in the Mt. i Pisgah community. Mrs.

Hanger attended Augus-. ta County schools. She graduat-; ed from Shenandoah Conserva-; tory of Music in Dayton and Dunsmore Business College in Staunton. fc She worked for Genesco in Verona for forty years before retiring on December 24, 1975. Mrs.

Hanger was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, where she was the secretary for the Golden Age Sunday School class, active in the United Methodist Women and the Ladies Craft of the Church. On May 1, 1944, she married William W. Hanger, who preceded her in death on December 26 1975. Surviving are: one son David H.

and wife, Margaret Pettit of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Becky and husband, Bob Root of Mt. Sidney and Julia and husband, Bruce Orebaugh of Harrisonburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hanger was preceded in death by one son Wallace D. Hanger, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Lockwood officiating. Bur- ial will follow at the church cemetery.
