25, 1976) at her home. The body is at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home; arrangements will be announced. HOWARD YANCEY SR. WAYNESBORO Howard McKinley Yancey 59, of 361 Market died at 9:05 a.m. Sunday (Dec.

26, 1976) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. Etter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. MRS. W. T.

GOODMAN Mrs. Helen (Peery) Goodman, 75, of 400 DuPont wife of William Thomas Goodman, died Friday night (Dec. 24, 1976) in King's Daughters' Hospital following a long illness. A native of Tazewell, she was born Jan. 5, 1901 a daughter of Jesse and Annie (Moss) Peery.

Mrs. Goodman was a member of Craigsville Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of the University of Virginia and had taught in the public schools of Tazewell and Augusta counties. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, William Thomas Goodman Jr. of Rome, N.Y.

and Alan Byrd Goodman of Craigsville; two daughters, Mrs. Joan Morgan of Staunton and Mrs. Tommy Coleman of Collinsville; one brother, William Peery of North Tazewell; one sister, Miss Catherine Peery of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren. A service was conducted at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home by the Revs.

John W. Cowan and Otis L. Fisher. Burial was in Thornrose Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Meek, Kenneth W.

McCoy, Leonard S. Thomas, George B. Harris Ralph Crummett, G. R. Binion and Martin Peery.

MRS. E. G. WISEMAN Mrs. Bessie (Young) Wiseman, 78, of 906 Richmond died Sunday afternoon (Dec.

26, 1976) at her residence. She was born at Stuarts Draft on May 5, 1898, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Nannie (Davis) Young. She was a member of Staunton Church of Brethren and was retired from Genesco. Surviving are her husband, Edgar G. Wiseman; a brother, Carl M.

Young of Lexington; four nieces and three nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Hamrick Funeral Home by the Rev. Alton L. McDaniel.

Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Melvin G. Steffey, Melvin M. Morris, Wayne A. Spaid, Anthony Peduto, the Rev.

H. S. Craig, Russell Bodkin, Fred D. Agnor and Elwood Steffey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 tonight.

WADE H. CLARK MT. SOLON Wade Hampton Clark, 74, of Rt. 1, Mt. Solon, died Saturday (Dec.

25, 1976) at King's Daughters' Hospital where he had been a patient since Dec. 15. He had been ill several months. He was born Sept. 23, 1902 in Bath County, a son of Floyd H.

and Alberta (Steinspring) Clark. Mr. Clark was a retired carpenter and a member of Moscow Church of the Brethren. On Dec. 19, 1931 he married Virgie Viola Loyd, who died June 6, 1976.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Fay Lambert of Elkins, W.Va., Mrs. Barbara Ann Hawkins of Harrisonburg and Mrs. Brenda Shull of Dayton; two brothers, Roger of Harrisonburg and Floyd Clark of Dayton; three grandchildren. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m.

Tuesday at Moscow Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Gene Knicely. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive freinds from 7-8 tonight at W. L.

Rosenberger Funeral Home in Bridgewater. BRENARD CARACOFE BRIDGEWATER The funeral for Brenard Edward Carcofe will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Montezuma Church of the Brethren by the Revs. Lloyd Evans and Earl Hammer. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridewater.

Mr. Caracofe, 78, of Bridgewater died Saturday (Dec. 25, 1976) at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He had operated a taxi service for the past 30 years. MISS E.

V. MURRAY Miss Evelyn Virginia Murray of 425 Alpha Waynesboro, died in St. Luke's Hospital in Richmond on Friday morning (Dec. 24, 1976). She had been in declining health several years.

She was born in Waynesboro, Feb. 4, 1907, a daughter of Houston and Ella (Byrd) Murray and spent her life in Waynesboro. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, its choir, flower club and other auxiliaries. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Irene Murray of Newport, R.I., and Mrs. Rebecca Estes of Newport News; a brother, Hughie Murray of Jersey City, N.J.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A service will be conducted in Shiloh Baptist Church in Waynesboro at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. A. T. Crawley, assisted by the ministerial alliance.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemeterydy is at Jones Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Friends are being received at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. George Young at 317 Port Republic Road, Waynesboro.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Anderson, Alexander Brown, John Caul, Warren Johnson, John Jones, Percy Sheffey, George Stewart and Randolph Wells. CLAUDE V. MULLENAX CHURCHVILLE Claude Virgin Mullenax, 65, of Rt. 1, Churchville, died at 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec.

26, 1976) in King's Daughters' Hospital. He had been ill for several years. Mr. Mullenax was born March 15, 1911 in Highland County, a son of Tilden E. and Gertrude (Hevener) Mullenax.

He moved with his parents to Augusta County in early childhood. Prior to his retirement in 1973, he was employed by American Safety Razor for 18 years. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lura (Armstrong) Mullenax; two daughters, Mrs.

Jared N. Collins and William M. Moyer, both of Churchville; two sisters, Mrs. W. M.

Wiseman and Mrs. Madeline Todd, both of Staunton; one brother, Carl W. Mullenax of Staunton; two grandchildren. The body is at Bear Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 8:30. A funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday at the funeral home by the Revs. Arthur Wingfield, Clemmer Matheny and James Smith, Jr. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Cromer, Harry Taliaferro Gene Grant, Earl Michael, Reese Byrd and Vaughn Ashby.

1, Grottoes, died Friday morning (Dec. 24, 1976) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. She was born in Augusta County Sept. 4, 1898, a daughter of John Elison and Naomi Ellen (Clayter) Baber. Mrs.

Rankin was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. Surviving are six sons, Clyde of Port Republic, Robert of Grottoes, John of High Point, N.C., Earl of New Hope, Ralph, at home, and Clarence Rankin of Crimora; five daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Lotts of Crimora, Mrs. Evelyn Rodgers of Shenandoah, Mrs. Leon Keith of Reinholds, and Mrs.

Dewey Via Jr. and Mrs. Bobby Carpenter, both of Grottoes; one sister, Mrs. Ada Clayter of Waynesboro; 32 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Tuesday in Etter Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Eugene Lenker. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Timothy Rankin, Tony and Michael Via, James and Paul Rodgers and Jerry Lotts. The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

MRS. F. ALLAN RAMSEY Mrs. Mary Ruby (Miller) Ramsey, 100, widow of F. Allan Ramsey, died Friday evening (Dec.

24, 1976) in a local nursing home. She was born on Jan. 31, 1876, in Botetourt County, a daughter of William Baldridge and Elizabeth Ann (Clark) Miller. Mrs. Ramsey was the oldest living member of New Providence Presbyterian Church.

On May 15, 1913, she married Mr. Ramsey; and he preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1932. Surviving is a son, Francis M. Ramsey of Staunton.

She was the youngest and last surviving member of the family of eight children. The following nieces and newphews survive: J. Walter Barger of Buchanan; Mrs. J.W. Fix of Lexington; Mrs.

Harry L. Morris of Hot Springs, Miss Elizabeth Sue Miller of Charleston, W. Mrs. Kenith A. Forren of London, Ohio; Paul C.

Shirey of Staunton; and Mrs. Guy Brugh of Buchanan. A funeral service was held at two o'clock today in the chapel of the Henry Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Philip A. Roberts.

Burial was in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Shirey, Paul C. Shirey, William N. Shirey, J. Walter Barger, C.

D. Barger, Harry R. Musser, C. Russell Ramsey, Leslie E. Stuple and J.

A. Wilson. Pd ob JOHN H. WELCHER CRAIGSVILLE John H. Welcher, 68, died at 6:15 a.m.

today (Dec. 27, 1976) in King's Daughters' Hospital where he had been a patient for several hours. The body is at Sensabaugh and Zimmerman Funeral Home; arrangements will be announced. DAVID F. STEELE RAPHINE David Franklin Steele, 76, of Raphine, died at 10:55 a.m.

(Dec. 26, 1976) in King's Daughters' Hospital where he had been a patient for two days. He was born on April 10, 1900 in Steeles Tavern, a son of Charles Franklin and Nellie (Hess) Steele. Mr. Steele was a self-employed mechanic, retiring in 1962.

He was a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church and men's class. He served as treasurer of the Bible class. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jessie (Chittum) Steele; three sons, David Jr.

of Baltimore, Harold M. of Raphine and Ralph E. Steele of Lexington; a brother, George E. Steele of Staunton; a sister, Ms. Elizabeth Judy of Bedford; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Rev. G. Preston Nowlin.

The family will receive friends at the residence. It is suggested that those desiring make memorial donations to the Fairfield Rescue Squad, Fairfield, 24435. Arrangemenets are being handled by Henry Funeral Home. CLARENCE CARTER WAYNESBORO Clarence Edward Carter, 49, of 308 Florence died at 6:27 p.m. Saturday (Dec.

25, 1976) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was born in Augusta County Sept. 5, 1927, son of Mrs. Manilla Deadrick Carter and the late Edward Carter. Mr.

Carter was employed in the maintance department of the city of Waynesboro in the Sanitary Treatment Plant. He was a retired sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, having retired in March 1, 1970 with more than 22 years service. He was a member of Lynside Mennonite Church. Surviving, besides his mother, are his widow, Mrs.

Wilda Mae (Brydge) Carter; three children by a previous marriage, David Garland Carter, Mrs. Linda Joe McFann and Mrs. Susan Robbins, all of Dover, one sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Hicks of Charlottesville; two brothers, Jack and Billy Carter, both of Waynesboro; five grandchildren and five nieces. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m.

Tuesday in Oak Lawn Memory Gardens in Staunton by the Revs. Vance R. Brydge and Herman E. Ropp. The Stuarts Draft VFW will perform military honors.

MRS. VIRGINIA LEWIS STUARTS DRAFT Mrs. Virginia Folkes Lewis, 84, of Stuarts Draft, died Dec. 20, 1976 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born in Chicago and lived in Oak Park, from 1918-1950, then moved to Stuarts Draft and spent winters in Phoenix.

Mrs. Lewis was a 1914 graduate of the University of Chicago. Surviving are two sons, John R. of Washington, D.C., and Dr. Charles Walker Lewis of River Forest, four grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

A service will be conducted today at DrechslerBrown Funeral Home in Oak Park by the Rev. William Killam. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. At a future date a memorial service will be held at Finley Memorial Church in Stuarts Draft. WILLIAM WHITE WAYNESBORO William Watkins White, 88, of 384 Maple died at 5:40 p.m.

Friday (Dec. 24, 1976) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was bron i Greensboro, N.C., July 12, 1888, a son of John Edward and Nannie (Kent) White. Mr. White was a former manager and partner of Barr Inc.

deartment store in Waynesboro. He was a member of Lee Lodge No. 209 AF -AM Masons and First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Fishburne Military School and the first scoutmaster of Waynesboro Boy Scout Troop in February 1913. At the time of his death, Mr.

White was a member of the board of directors of Virginia Federal Savings and Loan Association in Waynesboro. Suriving are one son, Dr. William Beckler White of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Etter Funeral Home by Dr.

Ronald W. Higdon. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Waynesboro Boy Scouts of America or Waynesboro Memorial Hospital Incorporated. O.T.

SMITH HOT SPRINGS Oswald Thomas Smith, 62, died Saturday (Dec. 25, 1976) at Staten Island (N.Y.) Hospital. He was born Jan. 22, 1914 in Hot Springs, a son of Charles and Hattie (Donovan) Smith and was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow, Mrs.

Ann Smith of New York; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Paxton of Staunton and Miss Hattie Smith of New Jersey; two sons, Oswald T. Jr. and Charlie Smith, both of New Jersey; two brothers, Edward S. and George W.

Smith, both of Hot Springs; two grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in McLaughlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Warren Rollins. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Edwards, 58, died Thursday (Dec. 23, 1976) at his home here. He was a native of Glasgow, and was a son of John E. and Daisy Edwards. Mr.

Edwards served in the armed forces during World War II, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion. Surviving are two sons, John of Missoula, and David Edwards of Belleview; one daughter, Miss Olea Jean Counts of Belleview; four brothers, Melvin of Buchanan, L.D. of Goshen, Coy of Belleview and R.L. Edwards of Ocala, two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Ayers of Ocala and Mrs.

Flora Mantiply, 58, of 213 Monday, Dec. 27, 1976 Isle Waynesboro, Sunday evening (Dec. 1976) at Iliff Nursing here. She was born in New ford, Feb. 27, daughter of George Alma Wilson.

He was the co owner and manager of Woodward Cleaners in Staunton. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Marion Mantiply of Annandale; one son, Samuel W. Mantiply of Richmond; one sister Mrs. George W. Cripp of Dover, two grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Nevin Alwin. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
