Area deaths reported MRS. EARL V. STOUTAMYER CHURCHVILLE Mrs. Grace Rohrer Stoutamyer, 94, of Rt. 1, Churchville, died 8:15 p.m.

Saturday (May 15, 1982) in King's Daughters' Hospital. She was born Nov. 20, 1887 in Churchville, daughter of Jacob Henry and Barbara Ann (Smith) Rohrer. Mrs. Stoutamyer was a member of St.

James United Methodist Church and the Churchville Woman's Club. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Eulie Hotinger, Mrs. Elva Burgandine and Mrs. Joyce Siron, all of Churchville, Mrs.

Gladys Swearengin Staunton and Mrs. Madelene Miller of Mt. Crawford; one son, Earl M. Stoutamyer of Churchville; one sister, Mrs. Zetta R.

Fadeley of Staunton; 11, grandchildren and 16 great died husband, Earl V. Stoutamyer, Aug. 20, 1946, and daughter, Naomi Arey, died Oct. 18, 1977. A service will be conducted 3 p.m.

Tuesday in St. James United Methodist Church by the Rev. David S. Willis Jr. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be' Mark and Kenneth Arey, Joseph, William and Gary Siron, Earl Burgandine and Tony Painter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Fowler, Dr. Joseph Williams, Marshall Ashby, J.H. Lightner, Robert Wood, Manson Baylor, Ben Zeigler, Williams Reynolds, J.J.

Rohrer, Charesl Taliaferro, Leon Lusk, Ernest Vaught, George Hodge, William Hostetter, Bruce McClanahan and Mervin Fry. The family will receive friends from tonight at Bear Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Churchville Rescue Squad. Ob MRS. HERMAN E.

GOCHENOUR ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Mrs. Nellie (Hildebrand) Gochenhour died Friday (May 14, 1982) in St. Petersburg after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 14, 1899 in Madrid, daughter of Jacob L. and Emma Hildebrand. Surviving are her husband, Herman E. Gochenour; two daughters, Mrs.

Jean Myers of Arlington and Mrs. Joyce Blizzard of Chevy Chase, two sisters, Miss Mary G. Hildebrand and Mrs. Ruth Kite, both of Waynesboro, two granddaughters and one grandson. The body was cremated and a memorial service will be announced.

MRS. SAMUEL N. MOYER WAYNESBORO Mrs. Alta Virginia Moyer, 81, of 861 wife of Samuel N. Moyer, died at 9 p.m.

Sunday (May 16, 1982) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. The body is at Etter Funeral Home. JOHN E. STOKES CRAIGSVILLE John Ernest "Jack" Stokes, 69, of Stuples Hollow, died Saturday afternoon (May 15, 1982) in King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born Sept.

10, 1912 in Orange County, son of Arthur G. and Julie (Reynolds) Stokes. Stokes worked in the boiler house for Lee High Portland Cement Co. for 25 years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs.

Millie A. Stokes; two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Cox of Swoope and Miss Christie L. Stokes, at home; three stepdaughters, Miss Bertha L. Layton of Glasgow, Mrs.

Patsy M. Clifton of Millboro and Mrs. Betty A. Strickler of Fordwick; one stepson, Herbert W. Layton of Craigsville; two sisters, Mrs.

Lester Harris of Churchville and Mrs. Charles Humphreys of Staunton; two half sisters, Mrs. Betty Cook and Mrs. Sylvia Bowden, both of Craigsville; two brothers, Arthur L. of Craigsville and Joe Stokes of Fordwick; one half brother, Eugene Stokes of Craigsville; five grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, four greatgrandchildren and.

a number of nieces and nephews. A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dallas Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Turner. Burial will be in the Craigsville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lewis M. Allen Lester Colvin, David Morris, Charles F. Duff, Wallace McLain and Kenneth D. Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Westend Assembly of God. At 4 p.m. Tuesday a service will be conducted at Bethel Presbyterain Church with burial in the church cemetery. FRANK KERBY SR. AFTON M. Frank Kerby 78, of Rt. 2, Afton, died 9:20 p.m. Saturday (May 15, 1982) at home.

He was born in Augusta County March 19, 1904, son of Emmett H. and Julia E. (Pleasants) Kerby. Kerby retired from DuPont in 1968 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon and chairman of the cemetery committee.

He was a member of Rockfish Valley Senior Citizens of Afton and Annex Senior Citizens of Staunton. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Catherine (Baber) Kerby; one son, Marvin F. Kerby Jr. of West Point; two daughters, Mrs.

Ethel Flippo Afton and Mrs. Mary Campbell of Waynesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Clark of Fishersville and Mrs. Vivian Bowman of Front Royal; nine grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A service will be conducted 2 p.m.

Tuesday at Hebron Baptist Church by the Revs. John Chafee and Lloyd C. Judy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Coffey, James DeHart, William Keith, Sam and Sheldon Stevens, Jim Willis and McKinley Herring.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at Etter Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cemetery Fund of Hebron Baptist Church. MRS. MINOR GARBER HARRISONBURG Mrs. Rena Barbara Garber, 89, of 254 Franklin died 3 a.m.

Sunday (May 16, 1982) at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born Dec. 15, 1892 in Mt. Sidney, daughter of John D. and Annie (Shaver) Western.

Mrs. Garber lived in New Hope for a number of years prior to moving to Harrisonburg in 1936. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren. On May 30, 1912 she married Minor W. Garber, who died April 24, 1966.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Catherine Crist of Harrisonburg; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Dice of Weyers Cave; one grandson. A service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Revs.

Don Fogelsanger and Harvey Ashby Sr. Burial will be in Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home and the family will receive MRS. FRENCH McCLANAHAN Mrs. Mabel Roberta McClanahan, 70, of Staunton and widow of T.

French McClanahan, died Sunday morning (May 16, 1982) in a local nursing home. She was born June 10, 1911 at Sutherland, daughter of Arthur and Biner Roark. Surviving are two sons, Bruce Staunton and Bill McClanahan of Fontana, two daughters, Mrs. Aeirl Haggart of Germantown, and Mrs. Betty Mullins of Crimora; one brother, Raymond Roark of Baltimore, two sisters, Mrs.

Ruth Lewis of New Hall, W.Va., and Mrs. Grace Patterson of Bishop; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday in Grandview Memorial Gardens at Bluefield by the Rev. Kenneth Brown. The family will receive friends from tonight at Hamrick Funeral Home.

JOHN D. HASSETT John Dahl Hassett, 22, of 123 Woodland Drive, died 5:50 a.m. Sunday (May 16, 1982) in King's Daughers' Hospital after a short illness. He was born May 3, 1960 in Staunton, son of Dr. John G.

Hassett of Staunton and the late Mrs. Mary Lucille (Dahl) Hassett. In June 1979, he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He was a member of St.

Francis Catholic Church. Surviving besides his father are one sister, Miss Mary A. Hassett of Staunton; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday in Thornrose Cemetery by Father H.G.D.

Dodge and the Rev. C. Larry Frakes. Pallbearers will be cousins. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Henry Funeral Home is handling arrangements. MRS. ROSCOE BOWERS WAYNESBORO Mrs. Carrie W. Bowers, 87, widow of Roscoe Bowers, died Saturday (May 15, 1982) in Liberty House Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for six years.

Prior to that, she resided at home of her son-inlaw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Blackwell of 1428 Aiken Staunton. Mrs. Bowers was born Aug.

15, 1894. Surviving besides her daughter are three grandsons, Carl G. Blackwell and Donald Blackwell, both of Staunton, Robert W. Blackwell of East Brunswick, N.J.; nine greatgrandchildren and two great-greatgrandsons. A service will be conducted 11 a.m.

Tuesday at Richardson-Horn Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Burial will be in Sherwood Cemetery in Salem. Pd Ob RAYMOND SHANKS MILLBORO Raymond Wilson Shanks, 1 76, of Millboro, died this morning (May 17, 1982) in Alleghany Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 1, 1905 in Bath County, son of John and Mazie (Woodzell) Shanks.

Shanks was a carpenter and a member of Rehobeth Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elva L. Shanks; two sons, Wilson G. and Leo D.

Shanks, both of Millboro; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine S. Stewart of Toano; one sister, Mrs. Pearl McCoy of Millboro; one brother, Ernest Shanks of Millboro; nine grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. A service will be conducted 2 p.m.

Wednesday at Rehobeth Methodist Church by the Revs. Norman Compton and Robert Sherrard. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be Mike and Garry Shanks, Jay Higgs, Jeff Hicks, Ricky Armstrong, Timmy Poe, Dennis and Donald Loan.
