John E. Caldwell, Army husband of Mrs. Anne (Longacre) Caldwell, of Phoenixville, died at his home Wednesday (Sept. 24, 1975) following an illness of two years. He was born at Hudson, son of Charles and Mary (Grady) Caldwell.

He had been a resident of Phoenixville for approximately five years. From June 1919-February 1941 he was assigned to the military department at Augusta Military Academy at Fort Defiance, Va. He retired in 1947 after 30 years in the Army. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren, three sisters and a brother. Services will be held 11 a.m.

Saturday in Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge. Burial will be in the adjoining churchyard. Kepp Funeral Home at Phoenixville is in charge of arrangements. MRS. GEORGIA WOOD HARRISONBURG Mrs.

Georgia (Thomas) Wood, 71, of 770 Virginia died 11:45 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 24, 1975) at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. A daughter, of Charles A. and Ida Yates Thomas, she was born May 2, 1904 at Stokesville.

She later made her home at Deerfield prior to moving to Harrisonburg 55 years ago. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Blinn Bible Class. On Dec. 24, 1921, she was married to J. Louis Wood who died Oct.

17, 1972. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Vallie Hamilton of Deerfield and Mrs. Lucille Foley of Harrisonburg and one brother, Russell A. Thomas of Staunton.

Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Fred B. Wyand assisted by the Revs. John Dyksen and Freeman J.

Hamrick. Burial will be in Fariview Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 o'clock tonight. FRED C. REID Fred Cleveland Reid, 83, of 1056 West Beverley Street, Chairman of the Board and President of Reid Store's died Thursday morning in King's Daughters' Hospital.

Mr. Reid was born at Spring Creek, W. Va. on April 7, 1892, a son of the late John Piercy and Sarah Elizabeth Williams Reid. He was a graduate of Dunsmore Business College and served in the Army during World War I.

Mr. Reid was a director of Wilson Trucking Company and had served as Chairman of the Staunton City School Board. An active member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, he was also active with the Gideons and was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He had been a director of the StauntonAugusta Chamber of Commerce and was the first president of the Virginia Food Dealers Association. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.

Elizabeth L. Reid, two sons, William H. Reid, and Fred C. Reid both of Staunton, two daughters: Mrs. Donald E.

Paradis, London England and Mrs. Robert P. Quinlan, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church conducted by his pastor, the Rev.

Harry L. Kidd Sr. and the Rev. Frank L. Baker, a former pastor.

Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Russell T. Knight, Harvey T. Black, George B. Harris, Vernon R.

Simmons, Eugene E. Mullins, Robert C. Beam, Joseph R. Kappes, Charles W. Wilson and M.

W. Larner, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Employees of Reid Stores, Inc. and Members of the Official Board of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church. The family suggests that those desiring make memorials to the Building Fund of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church or the Gideons, care of Mr.

William O. Varner, 600 Alleghany Avenue, Staunton, Va. The family will receive friends at the Hamrick Funeral Home this evening from 7:30 to 8:30 o'clock. Pd Ob MRS. NANNIE SHOWALTER HARRISONBURG Mrs.

Nannie Elizabeth Showalter, 97, of Harrisonburg, died 7 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 24, 1975) at Stonewall Jackson Hospital extended care facility, Lexington. A daughter of John W. and Martha Jane (Nelson) Horner, she was born Oct.

20, 1877 at Fulks Run. She was a life member of Golden Age Club. At the time of her death, Mrs. Showalter was the oldest member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and was also a member of Blinn Bible Class. On June 3, 1895, she was married to Walter L.

Showalter who died Nov. 6, 1951. She is survived by seven children, Wilbur M. and Elmer both of Harrisonburg, Mrs. Martha White of 150 Colonial Drive, Mrs.

Mary Nelson of Rt. 6, Harrisonburg, Mrs. W. B. McCown and Howard both of Staunton, and Labon M.

Showalter of Miami, 15 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; eight greatgreat-grandchildren; two halfsisters, Mrs. Clark Miller of Inwood, W. and Mrs. Pearl Hemelright of Martinsburg, W. and one half brother, Earl Horner of Martinsburg, W.

Va. Services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday from Otterbein United Methodist Church by the Rev. Fred B. Wyand assisted by Bishop Mahlon Blosser.

Burial will be in Weavers Church Cemetery near here. The body is at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from o'clock tonight. Relatives and pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home 3:30 p.m. Saturday. EDWIN L.

MOYERS BRIDGEWATER Edwin L. Moyers of Rt. Bridgewater, died late Thursday night (Sept. 25, 1975) at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was son of Mrs.

Effie Simmons and the late Grover Moyers and was born Sept. 2, 1921 at Pendleton County, W. Va. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, a veteran of World War II and a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Until two years ago, he lived at Verona.

On June 22, 1942 he married Daisie Fifer, who survives. In addition to his mother and widow, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Grace Hunter of Washington; three brothers, Ray of Harrisonburg, George of Grottoes and Otis Moyers of Hinton, and three halfbrothers, Bobby of Goshen, Lacy of Harrisonburg and Buddy Whetzel of Alexander, La. Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Sangerville Church of the Brethren by the Revs.

Dean Fawley and I. J. Garber with burial in the church cemetery. The body is at W. L.

Rosenberger Funeral Home, but the family will receive friends at the residence. MRS. U. G. SNEAD WAYNESBORO Mrs.

Carrie Elizabeth Snead, 76, died this morning (Sept. 26, 1975) in Liberty House Nursing Home following a long illness. Prior to entering the nursing home, she resided in Fishersville with her daughter, Mrs. Forrest W. Juerrant.

Mrs. Snead was born on Oct. 25, 1898 in Albemarle County, a daughter of John Lewis and Amanda Virginia (Durham) Thomas. Her husband, Ulysses Grant Snead, preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.

Juerrant and Mrs. Andrew Robeski of Milwaukee, two sisters, Mrs. Richard Stargell of Hopewell and Mrs. Arnette Smith of McGaheysville; three brothers, Willie and Henry, both of Charlottesville, and Walter Thomas of McGaheysville; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Monday in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Homer LeMaster. Burial will be in Oak Wood Cemetery in Charlottesville at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

B. Wine and Son Inc. of Verona submitted the apparent low bid Thursday for an addition to the John C. Myers Intermediate School at Broadway. Bidding was in three partsthe base bid for just the addition to the school, a separate bid for two fenced tennis courts, and another separate bid for two paved playground areas.

Mr. Wine bid $1,007,400 for the school addition--about $34,000 less than Nielsen Construction bid of $1,041,575, the second lowest offer received. The Verona firm set the cost of the tennis courts at $13,700 and the playgrounds at $5,100 for a total cost of still under Nielsen's no-extras bid. The Rockingham County School Board is expected to consider the bids further at a Monday meeting. Miller to attend Monday breakfast Atty.

Gen. Andrew P. Miller will attend a breakfast Monday honoring Del. Erwin S. Solomon who is seeking relection to his 15th Legislative District post.
