CARTER Lharles Alfred Carter of Philadelphia, and formerly Staunton, died at Blue Rirfpp I Sanatorium near Charlottesville Sunday mornine (Oct. 3. 19711 I He came to Staunton Aug. 15 to visu reiauves ana Had since been a patient at the hospital He was born in Highland I County Oct. 22, 1911, a son of Lharles E.

and Bertie (Nicholas) Carter and srjent his early life in Staunton. He moved to Philadelphia in 1933 and was employed as superintendent of larieton House Apartments. He was a Methodist. 1 Surviving are his widow. Mrs.

Elizabeth (Anderson) Carter of Philadelphia; four sisters, Mrs Julia C. Smith and Mrs. Marv Jones, both of Staunton, Mrs. iSignora C. Jones of Philadelphia, and Mrs.

Mattie C. Ware of Summit, N. a brother, Eugene E. Carter of Newport News; an aunt, nieces and other relatives. A funeral service will be in the chapel of the Jones Funeral Home Saturday at 2 o'clock by the James H.

Scott Jr. assisted by the ministerial al liance. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends are being at the residence of Mr and Mrs. Elmer Jones 213 Richardson St.

J. HENRY WAHMANN Miss Dorothy Wahmann of Lowland Farms has received word of the death of her father, J. Henry Wahmann of Norfolk Wednesday (Oct. 6, 1971) at a Norfolk hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m.

6, Staunton died Wednesday night (Oct 6, 1971) in King's Daughters' nospiiai alter a long illness A native of Mt. Sidney, she was Dorn Aug. 26, 1899, a daughter of Lucian H. and Mamie (Seawright) Reese. She was a member of First Baptist Lnurch.

Surviving are her husband. John E. Spitler; two sons, John b. Jr. and Warren E.

Spitler, both of Staunton; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph S. Smith of Rt. 6, Staunton; one sister, Mrs. Austin G.

Painter of Rt.J, Staunton; seven grandchildren, ana one great-grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted Friday afternoon at o'clock in First Baptist Church oy the Kev. Thomas M. Pinner and the Rev. Clemmer Mathenv Burial will be in Verona United Methodist Church Cemeterv.

She and her husband and two children live in the New Hope area. Pastor To Retire The Rev. William V. McCray, pastor of Forestville Lutheran Parish, Mt. Jackson, has resigned effective Nov.

30. He is the son of Mrs. O. S. McCray of Middlebrook.

He was ordained in Christ Lutheran Church, Staunton, and has served 41 years in the ministry in Virginia, Indiana and South Carolina. He was a chaplain in the Army for 16 months during World War II, and a chaplain in the Army Reserves until the end of November 1966. He is a graduate of Roanoke College, Salem, Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, S. and of the Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth Kan.

While he was pastor, new churches were built in three parishes Zion at Crockett, Salem at Harlan, and St. Jacob's at Chapin, S.C.: an educational building was erected at Glade Creek, Blue Ridge, and a narthex was added to Bethlehem near Waynesboro, and one at Solomon, Rt. 1, Quicksburg.
